Rehersal Dinners and Why To Have One

Why are rehersal dinners a good idea? They are predominantly a US tradition however they are increasingly held now in the UK. In a previous post we looked at why to have a wedding rehersal, today we look at rehersal dinners.

Rehersal Dinners begin the celebrations

Your wedding is a celebration – one of life’s biggest and most important. You’ve been planning for months (sometimes years!), everything is ready and looks spectacular. You have the wedding rehersal, and then all drift off to your various accommodation? And all have to find somewhere to eat? Or, do you have the wedding rehersal, and then all sit down to a lovely meal together?

Everyone has to eat, and you have your nearest and dearest helping you to set up your wedding. Starting the celebrations the evening before the wedding is a lovely way to build up the excitement. Now, we’re not talking a very late alcohol fuelled night here! Just a way of thanking everyone for their help.

You’re tired at the end of the day

So, you’ve all been working your socks off to prepare for the wedding day tomorrow. Do you really feel like getting dressed up and going out for your rehersal dinner? Sure, you’ll probably want to get a quick shower and change. But heading out to a restaurant might be too much!

If your venue offers a rehersal dinner option this solves the problem of where to go.

At Great Betley Farmhouse we love putting on rehersal dinners! We love the coming together of family and friends. It’s an opportunity for everyone to have a good catchup with people they may not have seen recently. There will be less time on the wedding day as there will be so many more people to talk to.

Relax before the wedding

I think that the US rehersal dinners can be quite lavish and formal events. Here at Great Betley we are anything but stiff and formal! Tables set up outside, simple place settings, citronella candles, lights in old wine bottles and good food, good company. Perfect! And we do have a large gazebo in case of inclement weather!
