Lotus Photography – Supplier Spotlight

I met Emmy from Lotus Photography at my nephew’s wedding last November. There we bonded over a mutual love of my velvet jumpsuit! To clarify, she’d been looking for it as she wanted it, I was able to tell her where to find it! Velvet jumpsuits aside, as a proper guest at a wedding for a change, I really loved her style. She is funny, energetic and gets all the guests in the right place at the right time. This ensures that she gets the shots that the couple want of their special day. She really is a very talented photographer and will capture your day perfectly.

Describe your style

Officially you’d call me a “documentary style photographer”. I prefer being called a photographer that captures the day, those moments that you’d never expect. (Seriously, I once photographed the bride’s cousin doing tequila shots off Grandad’s head!). Preserving those memories in an authentic and fun way, and celebrating who you are.

How did you get into your business and what inspired you?

It all started with a Christmas present. My partner bought me my first ever camera, and I was instantly hooked! I would not put that camera down. But the more I learned about photography the more frustrated I got with all the rules I kept discovering. Pose people this way. Shoot at this angle, etc. None of it was about the people in the photos. When I set up Lotus Photography I decided to throw out the rule book. I celebrate my couples for who they are and I came up with the motto #ShowYourUniqueStyle. My photos are about YOU, the laughs, the miscief, the moments, the mayhem and the love.

At Great Betley Farmhouse we encourage sustainability and being environmentally friendly, how does your business support that ethos?

Growing up, my favourite movie was Ferngully. If you know it, you know that it would have had a big impact on how I live. When I set up Lotus Photography I even wrote myself a Green Mission which you can check out on my website. I want to run my business in a fun, authentic, but ethical and sustainable way. I might not be perfect, but I’m trying to get better.

What advice would you give to couples to help them plan and enjoy their celebration?

#ShowYourUniqueStyle! There are so many “shoulds” and “it’s not a real wedding if you don’t have…..” – forget all that! The day is about the two of you, the relationship you have, and the future adventure you’re about to go on. So if you want to have a BBQ, do it. If you want all your group photos on a bouncy castle, do it. If you want a Halloween wedding with all your guests in fancy dress, do it. If you want to have your dogs as your wedding party, do it. And yes, I have photographed all of those! Celebrate who you are as a couple, and have the most amazing day doing it.
