Describe your style
Matt’s marquees provide Clear Span Marquees. These are modern and clean spaces with no guy ropes which allows for maximum space. They can be silk lined, have hard flooring put down or coconut matting. We provide all the furniture and lighting, and can advise you on generators, toilets etc.
How did you get into your business, and what inspired you?
I trained and worked as an actor for 30 years and whilst “resting” I worked for an events company. Eventually I bought my own marquees and started up on my own. I enjoy creating spaces and atmospheres for special occasions with attention to the impace a space can create.
What do you like about working at Great Betley Farmhouse?
Great Betley Farmhouse is unique as it’s a completely blank canvas. There is no insistence that you have to use their suppliers or do things their way. It is a beautiful field with plenty of open views. Kim is very easy to deal with and takes pride in her venue. There are also different spaces around to use. For instance for a ceremony in front of the house and then moving to the field for the reception.
At Great Betley Farmhouse we encourage sustainability and being environmentally friendly. How does Matt’s Marquees support that ethos?
There are very few consumable items in our packages and therefore very little waster. If we do use a new carpet for your event our supplier plants a tree for every roll used.
What advice would you give to couples to help them plan their celebration?
Plan well in advance. Listen to advice from suppliers – they have done this before, however, don’t be persuaded against your wishes! Get everything you have talked about in writing, and check suppliers insurances. You only get to do this once, so try to enjoy the process. What could be nicer than creating your perfect day?
