How did you get into your business and what inspired you?
I’ve been involved in weddings since I was 9 years old. My grandmother (forever my inspiration) ran her own business making wedding and celebration cakes in Somerset. Often I accompanied her to wedding fairs and events. I even did my work experience at a bridal shop in the town where we lived.
I have owned Mr Tickle since 2008 and in 2016 I went to a VW Show in Portsmouth. A lovely lady asked me if I did weddings, and that’s where the idea for the business was born. The rest is history as they say!
Describe your style
I would describe our style as unconventionally vintage with a nod to hippy festival vibes.
What do you like about working at Great Betley Farmhouse?
Great Betley Farmhouse is a vantastically versatile venue, the possibilities are endless. The venue really suits our clientele and Kim is a fantastic host. Nothing is too much trouble and she is always open to hearing about my hairbrained ideas with much enthusiasm!
At Great Betley Farmhouse we encourage sustainability and being environmentally friendly, how does your business support that ethos?
Bus and Bug Vintage Weddings no longer uses single use plastics such as water bottles and poly ribbons and bows. Our flower garlands are handmade from silk flowers and reused countless times. We recycle anything and everything we can. Also we have made a commitment to use local suppliers or small businesses where possible.
What advice would you give to couples to help them plan their celebration?
Don’t sweat the small stuff! Have fun – things might not quite go to plan, but it really doesn’t matter, no one will remember. Take at least 10 minutes after the ceremony to spend with your new husband/wife. You’ll be so busy greeting your guests that often couples say they barely saw each other. Going for a little drive in your wedding car is perfect for this! Lastly, if you have any suppliers that are non negotiable, book them early to avoid disappointment.
